CTF How To Play

Welcome to the 2025 NSWCDD STEM Triad CTF AI CTF, Powered by GT Edge AI.

Our CTF is designed to hone your prompt engineering skills, enable you to think more flexibly about using AI to solve problems, and identify and exploit vulnerabilities in LLM guardrails.

There are two major categories of challenges:

  1. Challenges that involve jailbreaking AI Assistants to retrieve flags. (K9-12)
  2. Challenges that involve general Cybersecurity skills (Cyber Hygiene, Cryptography, and OSINT). (K5-12)
    1. Competitors can use AI Helpers to help them complete these challenges.

You will need to register on both our CTF platform and our AI platform to play our CTF.

Accessing the CTF Platform:

  1. To get started, go to https://triad-ctfd.gtaictf.app/register , and enter in your information, including the registration code, which is provided in your welcome emails.
  2. Once you’ve clicked submit, you will be sent a confirmation email. Click the link in that email, and your account will be granted access to the platform.
  3. Select “Challenges”,
  4. You will be prompted to create or join a team.
    1. If you are creating a team (Teachers and team leaders), you will need to set a team name and a team password. Save these values to share with your team members / students, as they will enter these values in to join your team.
    2. If you are joining a team, contact your team leader or teacher to receive the team name and password, which you will enter in on the registration window.
  5. Once you’ve joined or created a team, you will have access to the challenges of the CTF.

Accessing the AI Platform:

  1. Next, select this link: https://triad.gtaictf.app/ You will be taken to the login page for the GT Edge AI Platform.
  2. On the login page, select “Reset Password”.
  3. Enter in your email and select “Submit”.
  4. An email will be sent to your inbox containing a password reset link– select this link.
  5. Then, use an app like Google Authenticator to scan the QR code on screen, and enter in the 6 digit OTP code that appears on your phone.
  6. Then, you will be prompted to enter your new password. Enter in your new password and confirm it, and select “Submit”. You should now see the GT Edge AI Platform UI.
    1. We recommend to set up two browser windows: one with the CTF on the left of the screen and the other with the GT Edge AI Platform on the right of the screen.
  7. In the GT Edge AI Platform, navigate to the left menu bar and select “Explore Assistants”.
  8. To access the AI Helpers, select the “K5-12 | Helpers” category.
    1. Select the helper that corresponds to the category of question your team is trying to solve.
    2. Ask about the challenge topics to get assistance with challenges.
  9. To access the AI Jailbreaking Challenge AI Assistants, select the “K9-12 | AI Jailbreaking” category.
    1. Then, navigate back to the CTF platform, and select the Challenge Titled “Start Here: Hello GT!”
    2. Then, in the AI Platform, select the Assistant that corresponds to the first Challenge “Hello GT!”
    3. Ask about GT Edge AI’s features to find the flag.
    4. Once you’ve retrieved the flag, copy and paste it into the “Flag” text input box in the “Hello GT!” challenge and submit it.
    5. Repeat this process to solve the rest of the AI Jailbreaking challenges!
