Artificial intelligence is no longer an experiment for government. It has become a mandate. Federal leaders are under pressure to harness AI’s potential while keeping pace with fast-evolving policy and heightened public scrutiny. The administration’s July executive order and GSA’s launch of USAi.gov reflect a new phase in this journey, one where agencies are expected to accelerate adoption while proving that AI can be deployed responsibly, securely, and in direct service to mission goals. For AI leaders, this shift creates a high-stakes environment where innovation must advance in step with oversight, and where success is measured as much by public trust as by technical progress.
